The announcement of making a film on Mohammed Rafi was made at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), where many celebrities paid tribute to him.

Mohammed Rafi Biopic: A film is going to be made on music icon Mohammed Rafi. His son Shahid Rafi has given information about making a film on his father.
Giving information, Shahid said, "Discussions were held regarding the project with producer Umesh Shukla, who has produced films like 'OMG-Oh My God' and 'Dhoondhte Reh Jaoge'. The official announcement of the biopic will be made on December 24 on Rafi Sahab's 100th birthday."
Mohammad Rafi has given voice to more than a thousand songs. He has sung heart touching songs like 'Likhe jo khat tujhe', 'Darde dil darde jigar', 'Aaj mausam bada beimaan hai', 'Main zindagi ka saath nibhaata chala gaya', 'Kaun hai jo sapno me aaya', 'Aaja aaja main hoon pyar tera', 'Parda hai parda', 'Gulabi aankhein jo teri dekhi' and 'Kya se kya ho gaya' and 'Mere Ram tera naam ek sacha'.

Mohammad Rafi's son Shahid told during the season titled 'Aasman Se Aaya Farishta - Mohammad Rafi - The King of Melody' that talks are going on with Umesh Shukla for an untitled film.
Shahid said, "The film will be announced in December. I am making a biopic on Rafi sahab. It will be the story of Rafi sahab's life. His songs will also be a part of the biopic. We have joined hands with 'OMG - Oh My God!' and '102 Not Out' director Umesh Shukla for the project."
Veteran actress Sharmila Tagore, singers Sonu Nigam, Anuradha Paudwal and filmmaker Subhash Ghai were also present at the event. Sharmila, along with singer Sonu Nigam, sang the 1967 song 'Aasman Se Aaya Farishta' to pay tribute to singer Mohammed Rafi at the 55th International Film Festival of India.
