If you also give mobile to your child to keep him busy, then be careful. Knowingly or unknowingly, this habit of yours can cause a lot of harm to the child's health.

A new study has warned that children who use "digital dummy" to keep their child busy, may be at a much higher risk of mental and physical diseases over time than other children.

Side effects seen in preschool-age children

A team of scientists has found in a recent study that too much screen time can reduce the quality of sleep in preschool-age children (3-4 years). According to research, the amount of time children spend in front of laptops, tablets or smartphones can also cause problems like concentration problems and unstable mood. Apart from this, cases of reduction in cognitive ability of children are also being seen due to increased screen time, which may affect their quality of life.

The findings of the research published in the Early Child Development and Care Journal show that reducing screen time has become most important to keep children healthy and protect them from many serious problems in the future.

What did the study find out?

Scientists from Canada and China conducted detailed research to know the side effects of increased screen time on children's health. Scientists found that due to increased screen time, sleep is affected and due to this, in the long term, hyperactive attention problem i.e. difficulty in maintaining concentration, increased cognitive problems have been seen.

Professor Yan Li, a preschool education expert from Shanghai Normal University and author of the study, says, "Our results indicate that excessive screen time puts preschool children's brains in an agitated state, which can impair both sleep quality and duration."

Decline in cognitive skills

The increase in screentime is also having a negative impact on children's ability to think, understand and solve problems. As a result, children are unable to focus on any task for a long time.

Another research published in the Journal of American Medical Association shows that children who spend more than 2 hours a day in front of screens may have a decrease in language and thinking ability. The Canadian Public Health Survey report also found a decline in school performance in such children.

What is the advice?

World Health Organization (WHO) experts have described screentime of more than one hour a day as harmful for children under the age of 5. Experts said that increased screentime is also increasing the problem of depression and anxiety in children. All parents should ensure that their child's screen time is minimal.

To reduce screen time, parents should spend quality time with children and encourage them to do outdoor activities. These efforts are the need of the hour to make the future healthy.
