Health Tips: What is the last age to become a mother? Women of this age should read the news and be cautious

As we age, our bodies undergo significant changes and their effects become more pronounced with time. A recent survey conducted by the gynaecology department of Delhi AIIMS has thrown light on a surprising trend related to women's fertility. The survey, conducted on 3,240 women, of whom 1,902 were suffering from infertility issues, revealed a significant drop in a crucial factor once women cross the age of 31. This drop directly impacts their ability to conceive. According to the report, between the ages of 31 and 34, a woman's ovarian reserve - the availability of good quality eggs - starts to decline. Take a look at the findings. Plan to conceive before 34

A study published in the international medical journal PLOS One states that a woman's ability to conceive decreases significantly after the age of 31 and it decreases even more after the age of 34. To make the path to motherhood easier, experts recommend planning pregnancy before the age of 34.

IVF is becoming more common among older women

Dr Neena Malhotra, head of the gynecology department at Delhi AIIMS, said the trend of delaying marriage and late pregnancy is contributing to the rise in infertility cases. Many women in the age group of 38-40 years are now resorting to IVF (in-vitro fertilization) treatment to conceive.

What is the ideal age for motherhood?

Research shows that the most fertile period for women is between the ages of 18 and 30. After age 40, the chances of conceiving naturally decrease significantly, and by age 50, menopause usually signals the end of natural fertility. However, options such as fertility preservation and egg freezing allow women to experience motherhood even later in life. By freezing their eggs during their prime reproductive years, women can plan a family when they are ready, regardless of age.
