Know your rights: If the flight is late or cancelled, do you get the full money back? Know the rules here
Whenever we have to go on a journey, we prefer to choose a vehicle that takes us to our destination on time. For this, many people prefer to go by their own vehicle such as a car. Whereas, many people like to travel by train, but there are many places where you can neither travel by train nor by car etc. In such a situation, people prefer to go by flight because it also saves time.
But it is seen that many times the flight gets cancelled or takes off very late due to which the passengers have to face a lot of problems. In such a situation, if you are also travelling by flight or are going to do so, then it becomes important for you to know about the rules related to ticket refund. So let's know whether you get a refund if the flight takes off late or not. You can know about this in the next slides...
Reason for flight cancellation or delay
If any flight takes off late or any flight gets cancelled, it causes a lot of trouble to the passengers. In winter season, flight delays happen due to dense fog and flights get cancelled due to this reason too. This time also, due to cold, many flights have been cancelled while many flights are flying late.
When do you get a refund?
If you have also booked a flight ticket, then it becomes important for you to know about the refund, because it is possible that the flight takes off late or gets cancelled, then what do you have to do. According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation i.e. DGCA, if a flight has a duration of two and a half hours, but it is delayed by two hours, if the duration of a flight is between two and a half to five hours and it is delayed by three hours, whereas, if a flight is delayed by four hours or more, then in such a situation, the airlines have to provide breakfast to the passengers.
On the other hand, if a flight is delayed by 6 hours or more, then DGCA has clear rules regarding this. According to these rules, the airline has to inform the passengers 24 hours before the departure time about how late their flight is. Here, if the passenger wants, he can ask for his seat in another flight or if he wants, he can get a full refund i.e. the entire amount of the booked ticket.
Not only refund, compensation can also be received
If you are going to travel by a flight, but that flight has been cancelled, then in such a situation it becomes the responsibility of the airline to inform the passengers at least 24 hours in advance that their flight has been cancelled, as per the rules. If the airline company does not do this, then it has to give compensation to the passengers along with the refund. Which can vary according to the flights of different duration.
If you don't get a refund, you can complain here
Although DGCA has clear rules regarding ticket refunds, but still if you don't get a refund or the airlines are harassing you etc., you can complain about it online to DGCA
