In today's era, many unmarried couples want to spend time in hotels, but in some cities it is not easy. But now the company has come up with a new rule in 2025, in which it is being said that unmarried couples or unmarried couples cannot enter the hotel. Let us tell you, till now couples used to get rooms easily here, but the company has banned it and this latest change is being implemented from Meerut city of UP. Let us know about the whole news and tell you how old a couple gets a room in the hotel.

It started from this city
The company has made a big announcement, it has decided to ban the entry of those couples in hotels who are unmarried, meaning those who are not married. If you want to book an Oyo hotel room, then first you will have to provide proof of your marriage or proof of relationship.
The new rule of ban on check-in of unmarried couples, brought by travel and hospitality platform Oyo, will be implemented this year and it is being started from Meerut city. All the hotels connected to Oyo in the city have been instructed to implement this rule.

Proof of relationship will have to be given
It has been made clear in the guidelines that along with those who book online, all the couples will now have to provide a valid proof of their relationship at the time of check-in. Along with this, it has also been said in the report that after the company implements this rule in Meerut, it will be implemented in other cities based on its feedback.

This step was taken by some local people and civil society groups by contacting the company. Especially in Meerut as well as some other cities, they have appealed not to give hotels to unmarried couples.

Hotel rules for unmarried couples

In India, there are no specific rules on hotel booking for unmarried couples legally. If you are above 18 years of age and you have a valid ID proof (like Aadhar card, passport, driving license and now marriage proof), then no one can refuse to give you a hotel. And now in well-known brand hotels, you will have to show your relationship status, after this no one can refuse to give you a room.

For what reasons can you refuse

The most important rule of the hotel is that the age of the people booking the room should be above 18 years. If anyone of the couple is below 18 years of age, then the hotel room can be refused. Apart from this, it is also necessary to show your identity for hotel booking. If you refuse to provide ID or hide your identity, the hotel staff can refuse to give you a room.

Can the police come and question an unmarried couple?

Many couples worry about the police coming while staying in a hotel. According to the law in India, every person above 18 years of age can live his life as per his wish, no matter who you are with. If you and your partner are staying in a hotel, the police will not come to stop you.

Unless there is any kind of criminal activity. If the police questions you, you can show your identity and inform them about your rights.
