Reason for petrol and diesel being expensive?

OMCs update fuel rates every day. According to the official website of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), one of the government oil marketing companies, petrol is being sold at Rs 94.72 per liter in Delhi. Let's understand its calculation... The base price of one liter was Rs 55.46. The cost of freight was 20 paise. Excise duty of Rs 19.90 was added to this. Then a dealer commission of Rs 3.77 was also added. Apart from this, VAT of Rs 15.39 was levied. In this sense, the price of petrol became Rs 94.72.

Let us understand the math of diesel prices on the website of the government company itself... Its base price is Rs 56.20. In this, freight cost was 22 paise. Excise duty was Rs 15.80. Then the average dealer commission was Rs 2.58. Further VAT of Rs 12.82 was levied. In this sense, customers get one liter of diesel for Rs 87.62.
