Year Ender 2024: The Most Searched Things on Google, From Movies to Recipes and Word Meanings

Google has released a list of the most searched topics in India for 2024. People’s interests varied across a wide range of subjects, but cricket topped the charts, securing the top two spots in overall searches. The Indian Premier League and the T20 World Cup were the most searched topics. Election results also grabbed significant attention, with the Bharatiya Janata Party and "Election Results 2024" ranking as the third and fourth most searched terms. The upcoming 2024 Olympics also caught people's interest, ranking among the top five.

As usual, many people turned to Google to look up the meanings of various words. This year, the most searched word meanings included "All Eyes On Rafa," "Akai," "Cervical Cancer," "Tawaif," and "Demure." Google organized these searches across various categories. Additionally, two films saw considerable interest: Stree 2 starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, and Kalki 2898 A.D. starring Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Prabhas. Both movies, released earlier in the year, received positive responses.

Google also introduced a new feature called "Hum To Search," which allows users to search for songs by humming. People used this feature to search for songs like "Nadaniyan," "Husn," "Illuminati," "Kachi Sera," and "Ye Tune Kya Kiya."

Apart from movies, popular web series and TV shows were also frequently searched, including Heeramandi, Mirzapur, The Last of Us, Bigg Boss 17, and Panchayat.

When it comes to travel, these were the most searched destinations:

  1. Azerbaijan
  2. Bali
  3. Manali
  4. Kazakhstan
  5. Jaipur
  6. Georgia
  7. Malaysia
  8. Ayodhya
  9. Kashmir
  10. South Goa

Lastly, people also searched for recipes, with particular interest in Aam ka Achar, Kanji, Charanamrit, Dhaniya Panjiri, Ugadi Pachadi, and Shankarpali. Young people, often referred to as Gen-Z, were also searching for the latest trending memes online.

In other news, reports suggest that Flipkart, one of India’s major online shopping platforms, may soon charge a cancellation fee for some orders. This marks a shift from their current policy, which allows customers to cancel orders without any charge. Going forward, cancelling an order may incur a fee, which will vary based on the price of the item purchased.
