A perfect combination of taste and health—here’s how to make soft Moong Dal Chilla for breakfast..

If you are looking for a healthy, delicious, and protein-rich breakfast option, Moong Dal Chilla is an excellent choice. Not only is it quick to prepare, but it also provides the body with plenty of energy. A well-made Moong Dal Chilla turns out incredibly spongy and soft, which significantly enhances its flavor. Let’s look at a quick and easy recipe for making healthy, spongy Moong Dal Chilla.

**Ingredients Required**
Washed Moong Dal (split yellow moong lentils) – 1 cup
Green chilies – 2
Ginger – 1-inch piece
Curd (yogurt) – 2 tablespoons
Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Salt – to taste
Baking soda – a pinch (optional)
Finely chopped onion – 1
Finely chopped capsicum – 1/2 cup
Grated carrot – 1/2 cup
Fresh coriander leaves – 2 tablespoons
Oil or ghee – as required

**Method of Preparation**
First, wash the Moong Dal thoroughly and soak it in water for 4 to 5 hours. Once the lentils have soaked and expanded well, drain the excess water. Now, place the lentils, green chilies, and ginger in a mixer/blender and grind them into a smooth paste, adding a little water as needed.

Transfer this paste to a large bowl. Mix in the curd, turmeric powder, and salt. If you want an extra spongy Chilla, you can also add a pinch of baking soda. Cover the batter and let it rest for 10 to 15 minutes; this helps the batter become light and airy.

Next, add the chopped onion, capsicum, carrot, and fresh coriander leaves to the batter and mix well. The vegetables not only make the Chilla nutritious but also enhance its taste.

Heat a non-stick tawa (griddle) over medium heat and lightly grease it with oil. Pour a ladleful of batter onto the tawa and spread it gently into a round shape. Drizzle a little oil around the edges of the Chilla and cook for 2 to 3 minutes. Once the underside turns golden, flip it over and cook the other side thoroughly.

When the chilla is golden and crispy on both sides, transfer it to a plate. Prepare the remaining chillas in the same way.

Serving Suggestion
Serve the piping hot Moong Dal Chilla with green chutney, tomato sauce, or yogurt. You can also stuff it with paneer and serve it as a roll.
