Today Australia will face Afghanistan in a very important match of the ICC Champions Trophy. This match will be a do-or-die for both teams. Victory is necessary for both Australia and Afghanistan to reach the semi-finals of the tournament. 3 days ago, the Kangaroo team's match against South Africa was cancelled due to rain and if Afghanistan's match is also cancelled due to rain, then it will reach the semi-finals directly.
Today is going to be a very important day in the history of the ICC Champions Trophy. 2-time champion Australia will be holding its breath in the match against Afghanistan, who defeated England and knocked them out. The team which started with a defeat, beat the British and showed them the way out of the tournament. Now the team will want to do the same feat against Australia. If Afghanistan defeats Australia, then it will secure its place in the semi-finals.
Australia will be in the semi-finals without playing
The match to be played against South Africa in Rawalpindi on 25 February had to be canceled due to rain. Australia had to share 1 point and because of this the match against Afghanistan has become a do-or-die one. If rain disrupts today's match and it has to be cancelled then the Kangaroo team will benefit.
After the match against Afghanistan is washed away by rain, Australia will make it to the semi-finals with 1 point. If England's team achieves an impossible victory over South Africa then maybe the Afghan team will be in a position of interest. The net run rate of the Proteas team is 2.140 and Afghanistan is -0.990 so only a miracle can make it to the semi-finals.
