Diljit Dosanjh: Diljit Dosanjh charged only ₹1 for Honey Trehan's film 'Satluj'—find out why..

Actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh is currently making headlines for his film 'Satluj', also known as 'Punjab '95'. Director Honey Trehan recently revealed in an interview that Diljit charged a fee of just ₹1 to work on the film.

**How Diljit was cast in 'Satluj'**

Director Honey Trehan wanted to make a film based on the life of the renowned Punjabi human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra. He did not want a Bollywood star for the role; instead, he sought an actor who truly understood Punjabi culture.

Diljit Dosanjh was the only name on his mind. In January 2021, Honey Trehan met Diljit at Amritsar Airport. Although Diljit was short on time, he agreed to the meeting.

**Diljit's emotional decision**

During the conversation, when the history of Punjab came up, Diljit himself spoke highly of Jaswant Singh Khalra. When the director handed him the film's script and a folder containing the research, Diljit became deeply emotional. He immediately stood up, touched the script to his forehead, and uttered "Waheguru."

**Why Diljit charged only ₹1 for the film**

When the discussion turned to his fee for 'Satluj', Diljit flatly refused to accept a large sum. He said, "How can I take money to portray a great human being like Jaswant Singh Khalra? Doing so would be shameful."
Since a specific amount had to be recorded for legal paperwork, the fee was set at just ₹1 at Diljit's insistence.

**The story of the film 'Satluj'**

The film is based on the life of Jaswant Singh Khalra, who dedicated his life to uncovering the truth about the thousands of people who disappeared during the militancy in Punjab in the 1990s. After a delay of several years, the film was released on an OTT platform on July 3. However, it was removed from the platform just two days after its release.

The government is investigating whether the film was streamed without a certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification. It has become embroiled in legal disputes over releasing the film without certification.
