This is a delicious and traditional Gujarati dish, which is prepared by mixing dal and flour dhokli. This is a kind of 'one pot meal'. This is a hot, spicy, and very satisfying dish. Ingredients
1. For dal:
Toor (pigeon pea) dal- 1/2 cup
Water- 2.5 cups
Peanuts- 2 tbsp (optional)
Tamarind pulp- 1 tbsp (or lemon juice)
Jaggery- 1 tbsp
Tomato- 1 (finely chopped)
Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp
Red chilli powder- 1/2 tsp
Salt- to taste

For dhokli:
Wheat flour- 1 cup
Turmeric- 1/4 tsp
Red chilli powder- 1/2 tsp
Ajwain- 1/2 tsp
Salt- to taste
Oil- 1 tbsp
Water- to knead the dough

For tempering:
Ghee or oil- 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds- 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds- 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida- one pinch
Curry leaves- 6-7
Green chillies- 1-2 (chopped)

Method of preparation
Step 1: Cooking the lentils
1. Wash the lentils and cook them in a cooker with turmeric and 1.5 cups of water for 3-4 whistles.
2. When cooled, mash the lentils well and make them smooth.

Step 2: Making Dhokli
1. Mix all the spices, salt, and oil in wheat flour.
2. Add water little by little and make a soft dough.
3. Cover it and keep it for 10 minutes.
4. Now roll out the dough make thin rotis and cut them into square pieces.

Step 3: Tadka and flavor the lentils
1. Heat ghee in a pan, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves, and green chilies.
2. Add tomatoes and fry a little.
3. Add cooked lentils, peanuts, tamarind pulp and jaggery.
4. Add water as required.

5. Cook the dal till it boils.

Step 4: Cooking the Dhokli

1. When the dal boils, add the dhokli pieces one by one.

2. Cook on low flame for 10-12 minutes. Keep stirring in between so that the dhokli does not stick.

Step 5: Serving

1. Sprinkle coriander leaves on top.

2. Add lemon juice and some ghee and serve hot.
