Gupt Navratri 2026: Do not make these mistakes during the 9-day spiritual practice, even inadvertently..

The *Gupt Navratri* (Secret Navratri) of the *Ashadha* month commenced on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, amidst a particularly auspicious alignment. In Hinduism, *Gupt Navratri* holds a place of immense significance, much like *Sharadiya* and *Chaitra Navratri*. However, this period is considered especially important for *sadhaks* (spiritual seekers) engaged in *Tantra* practices, *Mantra Siddhi* (attaining mastery over mantras), and the worship of the *Dash Mahavidyas* (Ten Wisdom Goddesses), rather than for the average devotee. It is believed that worshipping the various forms of Goddess Durga with proper rituals during these nine days leads to spiritual advancement and the fulfillment of one's wishes. Yet, according to astrologers, the full benefits cannot be attained if certain essential rules are not followed during the practice.

Pandit Dheeraj Sharma, a renowned astrologer from Hindaun, explains that the spiritual practice (*sadhana*) during *Gupt Navratri* differs from ordinary worship. The most crucial rule during this time is secrecy. If a seeker is performing specific mantra chanting, rituals, or *Tantric* practices, they should not disclose this information to anyone other than their *Guru* (spiritual teacher). The more secretly and with greater concentration the practice is performed, the higher the likelihood of its success.

**Difficulty in maintaining mental focus**
He noted that the location of the practice is also extremely important. Worship or rituals should be performed in a peaceful place, has minimal foot traffic, and possesses a completely pure atmosphere. Frequent interruptions or a noisy environment can prevent the mind from focusing, thereby diminishing the efficacy of the practice.

**Pay special attention to celibacy and a *Sattvic* lifestyle**
According to Pandit Sharma, observing celibacy (*Brahmacharya*) during the nine days of *Gupt Navratri* is considered auspicious for seekers. One should sleep on the floor whenever possible, consume *Sattvic* (pure, wholesome) food, and abstain from anger, lying, slander, and conflict. One should avoid not only speaking ill of others but also engaging in unnecessary praise, as these can cause the mind to wander.

He added that one should chant the mantras of Goddess Durga as much as possible during these nine days. Additionally, one should stay away from mobile phones, social media, television, and other such distractions that might disrupt concentration during the spiritual practice. It is believed that worship performed with devotion, restraint, and adherence to prescribed rules invokes the special grace of Goddess Durga, granting the devotee spiritual strength, mental peace, and the fulfillment of their desired wishes.
