According to the Hindu calendar, Ashadh Purnima is considered highly auspicious for worshipping one's Guru, performing acts of charity, and worshipping Lord Lakshmi-Narayana. Taking a holy dip in sacred rivers—including the Ganges—and worshipping the Guru on this day are believed to yield special spiritual benefits. It is believed that performing specific rituals involving a lamp after the Guru-puja on Ashadh Purnima attracts the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi alongside the Guru's grace. According to ancient traditions, worshipping the Guru holds great significance on this day.

Guru Purnima marks the birth anniversary of Maharshi Vedavyasa, the author of the *Mahabharata*; hence, the day is also known as Vyasa Purnima. It is believed that Vedavyasa composed the four Vedas on this day. On this full moon day, Gurus also initiate their disciples, and people across the board worship their spiritual teachers. According to the renowned astrologer Anand Bhardwaj from Ujjain, specific, potent remedies involving a lamp can unlock the doors to good fortune on this day.
When is Ashadh Purnima?
According to the Vedic calendar, the *Purnima Tithi* (full moon phase) begins at 6:18 PM on July 28 and concludes at 8:05 PM on July 29. Based on the *Udaya Tithi* (the sunrise date), Guru Purnima in 2026 will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 29. Performing Guru Puja and religious activities during this time is considered highly auspicious.
Must-try remedies involving a lamp:
1. It is believed that one should offer water to the Tulsi plant after bathing on the morning of Purnima. Lighting a *ghee* (clarified butter) lamp and performing *Aarti* pleases Goddess Lakshmi and ensures that the household's treasury remains full.
2. According to tradition, the kitchen is the most important part of the house, as it directly impacts a person's health. Therefore, one should light a lamp in the kitchen on Ashadh Purnima. It is believed that this pleases both Goddess Annapurna and the Guru, ensuring the household never faces a shortage of food.
3. On the full moon day of the month of Ashadh, one should perform *Deepdaan* (the ritual offering of a lit lamp) in a holy river. Doing this dispels negativity from the mind and resolves *Pitra Dosh* (ancestral affliction). Additionally, one receives the special blessings of one's ancestors.
4. On the night of Ashadha Purnima, one should light a lamp at the main entrance of the house, as this is the gateway through which Goddess Lakshmi enters. This practice invites Goddess Lakshmi into your home, alleviates financial hardship, and pleases the Guru as well.
