Baby Food Chart: For the first six months after birth, breast milk or formula constitutes a baby's entire nutritional intake. However, once the baby completes six months, it becomes essential to introduce changes to their diet to ensure they receive adequate nutrients commensurate with their growing age and evolving needs. From this stage onward, the introduction of solid foods—along with their quantity and frequency—should be gradually increased in accordance with the child's age. This is referred to as "complementary feeding." It is crucial for a child's physical and mental development. Providing the right food in the right quantities at the right time enhances the child's growth, immunity, and overall development, while also fostering healthy eating habits for the future.

Nutritious Food Alongside Milk
The Ministry of Women and Child Development, via its official social media account (X), posted that once a baby turns six months old, their body's nutritional requirements begin to increase. At this juncture, one should begin offering light, home-cooked, and nutritious food alongside milk. This diet can include rice served with thick lentils (dal), *khichdi*, green vegetables, yogurt, ghee, and a small amount of cooking oil. Additionally, yellow and orange-colored fruits and vegetables—such as bananas, papayas, carrots, and pumpkins—are highly beneficial. All these food items provide the child with essential vitamins and energy.
How to Begin
Initially, food should be offered to the baby in very small quantities. Start with approximately 3 to 4 spoonfuls and observe how the baby responds. If the baby eats well and is able to digest the food without difficulty, the quantity can be gradually increased. Typically, a baby aged 6 to 7 months can be given one small bowl of food twice a day.
Foods for Babies Aged 7 to 8 Months
As a baby grows older, their appetite and nutritional requirements also increase. A baby aged 7 to 8 months can be given two bowls of food per day. For a baby aged 9 to 11 months, this quantity can be further increased to three bowls. Meanwhile, a child aged 12 to 24 months can be given four to five small bowls of light and nutritious food throughout the day.

**Parents Should Recognize Their Child's Hunger Cues**
It is also essential for parents to recognize their child's hunger cues. Every child's appetite is unique; therefore, instead of force-feeding, one should offer food by observing and understanding the child's signals. Food should be given in a playful and affectionate manner to ensure the child takes an interest in eating. Young children should first be given milk, followed by solid food. This ensures that the child receives both types of nutrition.
