Switchboards often accumulate dirt and grime quickly due to contact with hands, dust, grease, dirt, and moisture. However, with a little care and the right methods, they can be cleaned safely, without any electrical hazards.

First, keep safety in mind.

Before you begin cleaning, be sure to do these three things:

Turn off the main switch or MCB to prevent any electric shock hazard.

Never place a wet cloth directly on the switch.

Never allow water to enter the switch.

1. Microfiber Cloth + Mild Cleaner
The easiest and most common method:

Clean dust with a dry microfiber cloth.

Then, wipe the surface with a lightly damp cloth (dipped in phenyl/surface water and wrung out).

This will quickly remove any minor dust and dirt from the switch.

2. Remove stubborn stains with toothpaste.
Toothpaste acts as a mild scrubber.

Apply a small amount of toothpaste to the switch.

Scrub gently with an old toothbrush.

Wipe with a dry cloth.

This method is best for removing yellowness and stubborn grime.

3. Baking Soda and Lemon
If the switchboard has turned yellow,
Make a paste of 1 teaspoon of baking soda and a few drops of lemon juice.
Apply this paste to the switchboard and leave it for 5 minutes.
Wipe with a cloth.
This mixture removes old stains, grease, and yellowness, restoring a new shine.

4. Vinegar Spray
Vinegar is a natural cleaner.
Mix equal parts vinegar and water.
Soak a cloth in it, wring it out, and wipe the switchboard.
The vinegar dissolves grease and grime and improves shine.

5. Magic Eraser Sponge
If there's a lot of grime, a Magic Eraser sponge is very effective.
Soak it with a little water and rub it on the switchboard.
It doesn't scratch and removes deep-seated dirt.

6. Plastic Polish (Optional)
If you want a glossy finish on your switchboard,

You can lightly polish it with commercially available plastic polish.

This can make even old switches shine.

Important Note:
Never allow water or chemicals to get inside the switch.

After cleaning, let it dry for 5–10 minutes before turning on the power.

By using the right and safe methods, switchboards can look as clean and shiny as new in just a few minutes. Toothpaste, baking soda, vinegar, and a microfiber cloth—these four ingredients can easily remove all types of dirt.
