Legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar has shared his views on the restoration of cricket bilateral relations between India and Pakistan. The last bilateral series between the two teams was played in 2012-13. Then Pakistan toured India for a limited-overs series. Due to political differences between the two countries, the match between India and Pakistan is limited to global (ICC) and continental (ACC) events. Last week, India defeated Pakistan by six wickets to enter the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy. During a recent conversation, Gavaskar suggested that bilateral talks between India and Pakistan can be restored only when the governments of both countries ensure peace on the borders.

Gavaskar said this on a bilateral series.
When asked how can India and Pakistan play bilateral series? Gavaskar said in 'Ten Sports' show 'Dressing Room', 'By clearly creating peace on the borders. It is very simple. If there is peace on the border, I think both governments will say that look, okay, we have not had any incident here, nothing. So at least let's start talking.' Gavaskar believes that efforts are being made internally to resume bilateral matches, but the recurring tension on the border is a big factor behind India's refusal to play in Pakistan.
'We hear about infiltration many times'
Gavaskar said, 'I am sure that some back-channel connections must be going on. But you want to see what is happening outside the field because we hear about infiltration from the neighboring country many times. That is why the Indian government is saying that till these activities stop, we should not even think or talk about anything.' The India vs Pakistan match in the Champions Trophy 2025 was one-sided. The Rohit Sharma-led team dominated in all departments. Now India can once again face Pakistan in the Asia Cup later this year. According to the Cricbuzz report, this time there can be 19 matches in the continental mega event played in T20 format. The tournament is likely to be held in September.
India vs Pakistan in Asia Cup too
The report said that the hosting of Asia Cup 2025 was handed over to India, but considering the India-Pakistan equation, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has decided to host it in a neutral country. However, the final decision on the location has not been taken yet. The report said that Sri Lanka and UAE are the possible options. BCCI will remain the designated host. Pakistan is the designated host in the Champions Trophy 2025, but India is playing all its matches in Dubai after the BCCI refused to send its team.
