International Cheetah Day 2025: The only place in India where you can enjoy a cheetah safari..

International Cheetah Day is celebrated every year on December 4th. The main purpose of this day is to raise awareness about cheetah conservation. Cheetahs are the fastest land animals in the world. Dr. Laurie Mark established International Cheetah Day in 2010, on the birthday of a cheetah named Khayyal. His initial research revealed the urgent need for cheetah conservation.

Regarding the cheetah population in India, there are currently 32 cheetahs in India, 19 of which were born in India. If you want to see cheetahs in India, there are only two locations where cheetahs are present. However, in the future, plans are underway to develop some locations into cheetah habitats. Currently, cheetahs live in two wildlife sanctuaries in Madhya Pradesh. However, cheetah safaris can be enjoyed at only one of these locations. The first of these two locations is Kuno National Park, where 30 of the 32 cheetahs are found. The second is the Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary, Mandsaur, where two cheetahs are kept.

If you want to make International Cheetah Day memorable, visit a place where you can easily spot cheetahs.

Main Cheetah Spots in India

Kuno National Park, Madhya Pradesh

India's first cheetah safari began in 2025 in Kuno National Park, Madhya Pradesh. Cheetahs brought from Namibia and South Africa were rehabilitated and released into their natural environment. With the birth of five cheetahs in recent months, the population has increased from 27 to 32. During the safari, you can experience their freedom and movements vividly. If you want to see cheetahs in their true wild environment for the first time in India, Kuno National Park is the most reliable and established option.

Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary, Madhya Pradesh

One of the other cheetah rehab centers in India is the Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh. Some cheetahs are being relocated from Kuno to Gandhi Sagar. If you're interested in going on a cheetah safari, Gandhi Sagar may also be open to tourist entry in the future. This site is a tourist destination supporting cheetah conservation efforts and could become a popular safari destination in the future.
