Much like petrol and diesel, the price of a cooking gas (LPG) cylinder varies significantly from city to city. As of September 15, 2026, state-owned oil marketing companies (IOCL, BPCL, and HPCL) have not altered LPG cylinder prices. However, a comparison of rates across different cities reveals substantial price differences.

For instance, while a domestic LPG cylinder costs ₹942 in Delhi, it is ₹37.50 more expensive in Lucknow, and in Leh, it sells for as much as ₹237 more than the Delhi price.
How do prices in other cities compare to Delhi?
According to the latest rates from Indian Oil (IOCL), the price of a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder in the national capital, Delhi, is currently ₹942, while a 19 kg commercial cylinder costs ₹2,747.50.
Leh is the most expensive city for domestic gas; a domestic cylinder there costs ₹1,179, which is ₹237 higher than in Delhi. Leh also tops the list for commercial cylinders, with a rate of ₹3,385.
Meanwhile, in Srinagar, a domestic gas cylinder costs ₹1,058, and commercial gas (at ₹3,053) is ₹305.50 more expensive than in Delhi.
What are the rates in UP, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh?
In Lucknow, the capital of UP, a domestic cylinder costs ₹979.50 (₹37.50 more than in Delhi). The commercial cylinder there is priced at ₹2,870, which is ₹122.50 higher than in Delhi.
In Patna, Bihar, a domestic cylinder costs ₹1,031.50—₹89.50 higher than in Delhi. The rate for a commercial cylinder there is ₹3,029 (₹281.50 more expensive than in Delhi). In Gurugram, located near Delhi, the price of a domestic cylinder is ₹950.50 (just ₹8.50 higher). Rates in Chandigarh and Ahmedabad are also quite close to those in Delhi.
Why do prices differ?
The primary reason for this price variation is the distance of the city from the refinery or the main bottling plant. Additionally, apart from the 5% GST, extra taxes or administrative charges levied by various states and local bodies can also be significant factors.
