Men will need to take this new pill 30 minutes before sexual activity! It will help in preventing pregnancy..

When it comes to family planning, the burden still falls disproportionately on women worldwide. Men have only two primary options: using condoms or undergoing a vasectomy. Women, on the other hand, often have to rely on hormonal medications, which frequently come with their own set of side effects.

Scientists at Weill Cornell Medicine in the United States have discovered a groundbreaking approach that could completely transform this landscape. They are developing a unique 'on-demand' contraceptive pill for men—an innovation that could prove to be a game-changer in the world of science.

How will this pill work?
According to Professor Dr. Jochen Buck and Dr. Lonny Levin, who are leading this unique project, this is not a medication that needs to be taken daily. Instead, a man would simply take it 30 minutes before sexual activity.

The pill works by temporarily inhibiting a specific enzyme in the body known as 'sAC'. In simpler terms, it effectively halts the sperm's ability to move forward. If the sperm cannot move, the risk of pregnancy is eliminated.

Effective for 6–8 hours, then back to normal
The most significant advantage of this medication is its short-term effect. It remains active for only 6 to 8 hours after consumption. Once this period ends, the man’s fertility returns to its normal state, with no lasting impact.

While scientists are currently exploring other contraceptive methods for men—such as daily gels or injections—those options often take weeks to become effective, and it can also take weeks for their effects to wear off. In contrast, this new pill is designed to work almost immediately.

$8.2 Million in Funding Secured for Research
This is not an invention that happened overnight. Following successful preliminary testing in 2020 and 2023, the scientists' next objective is to test this drug on humans.

To facilitate these safe human trials, the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) has awarded the scientists $8.2 million in funding over the next four years. These resources will be used to ensure the drug has no toxic effects and is entirely safe for the human body.

Birth Control Will No Longer Be Solely a Woman’s Responsibility
To bring this drug to market as quickly as possible and secure FDA approval, the research team has established a company called Sacyl Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

If everything goes as planned, the day is not far off when the responsibility for contraception will no longer rest solely with women; men, too, will be able to visit a pharmacy and choose a safe, convenient option for themselves.
