Pakistan made an unwanted record
With this, Pakistan has registered some unwanted records in its name. This is the first time since 2009 that the host team of the Champions Trophy has been eliminated from the group stage itself. The last time this happened was with South Africa when the team lost two out of three matches and won one. The South African team was at the bottom of the group at that time.
Not only this, Pakistan is the fourth team that came to defend the title in the Champions Trophy but was eliminated in the group stage itself. The first time this happened was in 2004 when India and Sri Lanka were eliminated in the group stage itself. India and Sri Lanka became joint winners of this tournament in 2002. The last time this happened was in 2013 when the defending champion team was eliminated in the group stage. At that time Australia could not win any match.
