Parenting: What to do if your child cries a lot after getting a vaccine? An MBBS doctor explained an easy method...

After being born, a baby's body gradually adapts to survive in the new environment. Because the baby's immune system is very weak at this stage, the risk of bacterial and viral infections is very high. Therefore, vaccinations are given at birth to provide protection.

Some vaccines are also given to children on their thighs. While there are usually no side effects after vaccination, in some cases, children may experience reactions such as fever, body rashes, and swelling. This causes the children to cry a lot and become irritable. In such situations, it becomes very difficult for parents to manage the child. Dr. Ravi Malik, MBBS, MD, recently shared tips on how to calm a child in such situations in his Instagram post.

What to do if your baby cries a lot?
The Chairman and Senior Consultant Pediatrician at Radix Health Care, Nirman Vihar, Delhi, explains that if your baby cries a lot after returning home from vaccination, you can try 3-4 simple measures. But first, make sure to check if there is any swelling, redness, or pain at the injection site.

Apply a cold compress.
The expert suggests that if the child is bothered by swelling, redness, or pain after vaccination, apply a cold compress. However, be careful not to use ice directly. Do not apply a hot compress.

What to do if the child develops a fever
If the child develops a high fever after vaccination, you can give them paracetamol after consulting a doctor.

Keep the child comfortable!
To keep the child calm after vaccination, ensure that they are feeling comfortable. You can hold them close to your chest. This is because children tend to become more irritable after vaccination.

Keeping the child hydrated is important.
Keeping the child hydrated is also very important. For this, breastfeed the baby frequently, or if they drink milk from a bottle, give them that so that the child remains well-hydrated.

Please note:
According to Dr. Malik, if your child develops a very high fever after vaccination or experiences rashes all over the body, difficulty breathing, or seizures, consult a doctor immediately.
