The period of Pitru Paksha holds great significance in Hinduism. During this time, people remember their ancestors and respectfully invite them into their homes. Furthermore, rituals such as *Tarpan*, *Shraddha*, and *Pind Daan* are performed to honor the ancestors. Along with the various beliefs associated with Pitru Paksha, there are also specific Vastu guidelines; following them is believed to please the ancestors.

According to Vastu, the main entrance of the house is a crucial area. It is considered the primary gateway for energy to enter the home. Therefore, keeping the main entrance clean and organized during Pitru Paksha is essential. Let us explore this in detail.

**Thoroughly Clean the Main Entrance**
The first step during Pitru Paksha is to thoroughly clean the main entrance of the house. Do not allow dust, dirt, or grime to accumulate around the doorway. If there are cobwebs on or near the door, clear them away.

Avoid keeping old boxes, broken items, scrap, or useless objects near the main entrance. A clean and tidy entrance is considered auspicious in Vastu.

**Organize Footwear**
Shoes and slippers scattered in front of the main entrance spoil the home's aesthetic appeal and make the house look disorganized from the outside. Instead of leaving them strewn about, place them neatly in a designated spot. According to Vastu, the south or west direction is considered ideal for keeping footwear.

**Decorate with Toran and Rangoli**
While many view Pitru Paksha as a time of mourning, it should ideally be observed as a festival. During this period, our ancestors visit us at home. Therefore, the main entrance or doorway should be decorated with a *Toran* (decorative door hanging) and *Rangoli*. For this occasion, you can hang a *Toran* made of mango or Ashoka leaves and marigold flowers at the main entrance. Additionally, creating a small *Rangoli* in the clean space in front of the entrance enhances its beauty and tidiness. 

**Ensure the door makes no noise**
During Pitru Paksha, the main door should not produce any harsh or loud noises when being opened or closed. If such a noise occurs, it should be repaired beforehand; applying oil to the door hinges can often fix the issue. According to Vastu, a peaceful atmosphere and an organized home are pleasing to the ancestors.

**Keep the main entrance illuminated in the evening**
Ensure there is adequate lighting at the main entrance during the evening. This ensures the ancestors do not encounter darkness on their path to the home, and the entrance appears clean and welcoming.

**Keep the threshold clean**
The threshold of the main entrance holds special significance during Pitru Paksha. It is customary to smear the threshold daily with a fresh mixture of cow dung during this period. If the threshold is already damaged, have it repaired before Pitru Paksha begins. Additionally, stepping over the threshold of the specific room or area where the ancestors are honored is often prohibited.

**Plant auspicious plants nearby**
Plants such as Tulsi (Holy Basil), Ashoka, or Shami can be planted near the main entrance during Pitru Paksha. Planting these varieties at home during this period is considered highly auspicious according to Vastu principles.
