With the beginning of the month of Falgun, a series of festivals and fasts commences. Sankashti Chaturthi holds special significance in Hinduism and is considered the most auspicious day to receive the blessings of Lord Ganesha. This year, the Sankashti Chaturthi of Falgun month (Dwijapriya Sankashti Chaturthi) is falling on a very auspicious day.

Falgun Sankashti Chaturthi 2026: Date and Auspicious Time
According to the Hindu calendar, Sankashti Chaturthi will be celebrated on the Chaturthi Tithi of the Krishna Paksha of the Falgun month. In 2026, this date falls on a Thursday, February 5th.
According to the Drik Panchang, the Chaturthi Tithi will begin on February 5th and end on the following day, February 6th. Since the worship of the moon is important on Sankashti Chaturthi, the fast will be observed on the 5th.
Chaturthi Tithi Begins - February 05, 2026 at 12:09 AM
Chaturthi Tithi Ends - February 06, 2026 at 12:22 AM
Method and Significance of Worship
On this day, the 'Dwijapriya' form of Lord Ganesha is worshipped. It is believed that any devotee who observes a fast with a sincere heart on this day will have all the obstacles (vighnas) in their life removed.
According to religious beliefs, offering Durva grass, Modak (sweet dumplings), and red flowers to Lord Ganesha is considered highly fruitful. Chanting the mantra 'Om Gan Ganapataye Namah' during the puja brings mental peace and success in endeavors. This fast is concluded only after offering Arghya (water offering) to the moon at night.

Moonrise Time
The Sankashti Chaturthi fast is not considered complete until the moon is sighted. On February 5, 2026, the moonrise time will be 9:35 PM (approximate). This time may vary by a few minutes depending on the city.
According to the stories described in the scriptures, while offering Arghya to the moon, one should definitely include roli (vermilion), akshat (rice grains), and white flowers. This strengthens the position of the moon in the horoscope and provides relief from mental stress.
