On this occasion, there is a tradition of worshipping Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, as well as Goddess Lakshmi. When should Sawan Purnima be celebrated?

According to the *Panchang* (Hindu almanac), the *Purnima Tithi* (full moon date) of the Sawan *Shukla Paksha* (waxing phase of the moon) will begin at 9:09 AM on August 27, 2026, and conclude at 9:47 AM on the following day, August 28, 2026. Since the *Purnima Tithi* will be present at sunrise on August 28, the festival of Sawan Purnima will be celebrated on Friday, August 28, 2026, based on the *Udaya Tithi* (the lunar day prevailing at sunrise). In other words, performing Sawan Purnima rituals on August 28 this year is considered auspicious.

Things to keep in mind on Sawan Purnima

Do not offer certain items to the Shivling: Pay special attention to the offerings (*puja samagri*) when worshipping Lord Shiva on Sawan Purnima. According to religious beliefs, Tulsi leaves, turmeric, and vermilion (*sindoor*) are not offered to the Shivling. Offering the Ketaki flower is also considered prohibited.
