Vat Savitri Vrat 2025: Married women observe the fast of Vat Savitri to protect their husbands and for their long life, good health, a happy married life, and childbirth. At the same time, women who observe this fast worship the Vat tree after doing sixteen adornments and get air from a bamboo fan. Regarding this, Pandit Manotpal Jha of Purnia says that on the day of Vat Savitri Vrat, married women worship the banyan tree.

This tree is considered to be the purest and oxygen-giving. According to scriptures and Puranas, this tree is inhabited by all three gods - Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh, due to which it is specially worshipped.

He said that the tradition of Vat Savitri Vrat has been going on since the times of the ancestors. According to mythological belief, this fast is associated with the story of Savitri and Satyavan. On this day, Sati Savitri gave proof of her wifely duties to Yamraj, and pleased with this, Yamraj gave life to her husband Satyavan. Since then, married women have observed fast and worship under the Banyan tree for their husband's long life, good health, a happy married life, and children.

The special importance of the bamboo fan

He said that on this day, women observe a fast and wear new clothes, and go under the Banyan tree with worship material and seasonal fruits in a bamboo basket. Especially in this fast-paced world, the bamboo fan is considered very important. Married women will go around the Banyan tree seven times with seven threads of Raksha Sutra and wrap it. Then they will fan the Banyan tree with a bamboo fan.

On returning after worship, they also fan their husband with the same fan. According to Pandit Jha, there is a mythological belief that bamboo is related to the growth of the lineage, and bamboo is considered auspicious for increasing the lineage. Bamboo is cooling, and its air is pure as well as cool, which calms the mind and keeps the family life pleasant.

Know Amrit Yoga for Vat Savitri Puja
Pandit Manotpal Jha says that according to Mithila Panchang, this time Vat Savitri fast will be celebrated on 26 May 2025, Monday, on the Chaturdashi date of Krishna Paksha of Jyeshtha month. Fasting and worshiping in Amrit Yoga on this day is considered most fruitful. He told that the auspicious time for fasting, i.e., Amrit Yoga, will be from 11:01 am to around 3:30 pm. During this time, any married woman can observe Vat Savitri fast and she will get auspicious results.
