Will the timing for the worship of Karwa Mata change on Karwa Chauth due to 'Bhadra'? Find out..

Karwa Chauth 2026: This year, the Karwa Chauth fast will be observed on Thursday, October 29. Every year, on the *Chaturthi* (fourth day) of the *Krishna Paksha* (waning phase of the moon) in the month of *Kartik*, married women observe a *nirjala* (waterless) fast, praying for the long life of their husbands. Although *Bhadra* (an inauspicious period) coincides with Karwa Chauth this year, it will conclude before sunrise. Consequently, *Bhadra* will end well before the fast-related rituals begin, ensuring no negative impact on the worship or the fast. Let us look at the duration of *Bhadra*, the auspicious timing (*muhurta*) for worship, and the moonrise time for Karwa Chauth.

Beginning of *Chaturthi Tithi* in the month of *Kartik*: 01:06 AM on October 29.
Conclusion of *Chaturthi Tithi* in the month of *Kartik*: 10:09 PM on October 29.
Based on the *Udaya Tithi* (the *tithi* prevailing at sunrise) and the moon's appearance on *Chaturthi*, the Karwa Chauth fast will be observed on Thursday, October 29.

Duration of *Bhadra*: *Bhadra* will begin at 5:31 AM on October 28 and conclude at 4:27 AM on October 29.

According to the *Panchang* (Hindu calendar) calculations, *Bhadra* will last from 5:31 AM on October 28 until 4:27 AM on October 29. This means *Bhadra* will end well before sunrise on the day of Karwa Chauth. Therefore, the evening worship rituals for Karwa Chauth will remain unaffected by *Bhadra*. Women may perform the worship of Karwa Mata, Goddess Parvati, and Lord Ganesha during the designated auspicious time (*shubh muhurta*). Furthermore, the rituals performed at the time of moonrise will also be free from any *Bhadra*-related *dosha* (flaw). According to Vedic astrology, auspicious or ceremonial activities are generally avoided during the *Bhadra* period; however, if *Bhadra* is considered to be residing in *Swarga Loka* (heaven) or *Patala Loka* (the netherworld), its inauspicious influence does not affect the *Prithvi Loka* (Earth).

Karwa Chauth 2026 Puja Timing (Muhurat)
Karwa Chauth Puja Timing: From 5:38 PM to 6:56 PM
During this period, women can prepare a *puja thali* (worship tray), offer prayers to Karwa Mata, and listen to the *vrat katha* (the traditional story associated with the fast).

Moonrise Time: On this day, the moon will rise approximately between 8:12 PM and 8:17 PM (the exact time may vary slightly depending on the city—for instance, it will rise around 7:42 PM in Kolkata and around 8:56 PM in Mumbai).

Significance of Karwa Chauth
Karwa Chauth is an important festival in Hinduism, observed by married women who pray for their husbands' longevity, good health, and a happy marital life. On this day, women observe a *nirjala vrat* (a fast without water) from sunrise until moonrise. In the evening, they worship Karwa Mata, Goddess Parvati, Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha, and Lord Kartikeya. Following this, the *Karwa Chauth katha* is recited, and the fast is broken after offering *arghya* (a ritual offering) to the moon. According to religious beliefs, this fast symbolizes the love, trust, and dedication between a husband and wife. On this day, women adorn themselves with the *solah shringar* (sixteen traditional adornments) and pray for the happiness and prosperity of their families.
