Rishikesh, the spiritual city of Uttarakhand, has always been a center of spiritual practice, yoga, and Sanatan traditions. In the Tapovan area of this holy city, a unique Shivalinga is enshrined, a sight that astonishes devotees. This Shivalinga is completely different from ordinary Shivalingas, as no one is allowed to offer water to it. It is made of mercury and coated with silver. Due to religious beliefs and its special energy, the ritual of worshipping this Shivalinga is unique and meticulous.

Priest Jitendra Kumar explained that this temple in the Tapovan area has become a special attraction among devotees due to its unique characteristics. While water, milk, or other worship materials are typically offered to the Shivalinga, this is not done with this Mercury Shivalinga. Offering water to this mercury Shivalinga can affect its structure and energy. Therefore, devotees are specifically reminded to follow this rule. Regular daily worship is performed here, involving chanting of mantras and special rituals to worship the deity.
The cleaning and maintenance of this Shivalinga is also carried out with utmost care. Mercury metal is considered extremely sensitive, so the temple priests and servants follow special religious rules and scientific precautions when cleaning it. It is said that to protect this Shivalinga from any damage, only trained personnel approach it and perform its services. Although worship is performed daily, a special Mahapuja is held every 15 days. On this occasion, the Shivalinga is decorated with flowers spectacularly. A variety of fruits, sweets, and offerings are also offered to the deity.

He explained that according to religious belief, Naga Sadhus had said that the installation of a mercury Shivalinga is essential for the welfare of the world and the balance of positive energy. Based on this belief, Baba 1008 Bhagat Ji Maharaj decided to establish this Parad Shivling, and at the same time, the Naga Sadhus, on the strength of their penance and knowledge, gave solid form to the mercury and created this amazing Shivling.
