Amarnath Cave: Amidst dense forests, Ranchi is also home to an Amarnath Cave, where long queues form for *darshan*..

Gundu village is located just 10 kilometers from Ranchi in the state of Jharkhand. This village is home to a particularly large cave. Situated beneath this cave is a Shiva Lingam. The cave features an extremely narrow and constricted passageway; devotees navigate this path to enter and perform *Jalabhishek* (ritual water offering) inside. Some people, overcome by fear, do not even venture inside. It is said that for anyone who performs *Jalabhishek* here, the Lord fulfills every single wish of their heart. Let us learn more about this from the local priest.

Devotees travel from distances of 40 to 50 kilometers to visit this site—some come solely to make a wish, while others return to offer prayers and thanksgiving after their wishes have been granted. Maru Devi, a visitor here, shares her story: "I prayed to the Lord for a son, and He heard my plea. Today, I have a son, and—most remarkably—he is a very well-mannered and wonderful young man. He even helps me with my daily chores." For this reason, she visits the shrine once every month.

**People Fear Entering the Cave**

Ajay, the local priest, explains that while the cave's entrance is indeed extremely narrow, a miraculous phenomenon ensures that—to this day—no one has ever gotten stuck within the passage. Regardless of one's physique, people are able to pass through with ease; nevertheless, some visitors remain apprehensive and choose to make their wishes from the outside, or they ask others to offer the water on their behalf. However, a great many people do venture inside and emerge safely on the other side.

**A Beautiful Shiva Lingam Resides Within**

Priest Ajay describes the interior, noting that it houses a remarkably beautiful Shiva Lingam, devoid of any artificial ornamentation. Resembling a stone of deep black hue, the Lingam is the focal point where devotees offer prayers and ritual water. Upon exiting the cave, visitors often spend some time engaging in meditation and contemplation. There is also a designated area for worship outside the cave; thus, if you are unable to venture inside, you can still perform your prayers and rituals outside in strict accordance with traditional rites. The priest has witnessed with his own eyes the fulfillment of countless wishes—from the construction of new homes to the resolution of personal struggles—affirming that not just one or two, but hundreds of thousands of people have had their prayers answered at this sacred site.

The surrounding scenery is equally breathtaking, enveloped on all sides by a dense, lush forest. Nestled deep within this wilderness—inside the cave—the Lord resides in all His divine glory. In this context, if you happen to be heading this way, the scenery here is sure to leave you spellbound. A particularly noteworthy feature is that, due to the dense forests, the temperature here remains up to 10 degrees lower than the surroundings; upon arriving, you will definitely begin to feel the chill.

**Carry Your Own Food and Water**
If you plan to visit, you must bring your own food and water, as you will not find any supplies available in the immediate vicinity. Additionally, be sure to carry some cash with you, as UPI payments are not accepted here. There are adequate parking facilities available, allowing you to perform your prayers and rituals with ease, enjoy the beautiful scenery, and make your return journey.
