Arijit Singh, the singer who has captivated millions of hearts with his voice, has officially announced his departure from playback singing. This decision has not only surprised his fans but is also being seen as the end of an era in the music industry. However, he has clarified that he will complete all previously committed projects.

On January 27, 2026, he shared a post on his Instagram account, stating that he will no longer be taking on any new playback projects. This news came as a shock to his fans, as three of his songs, ‘Gehra Hua’, ‘Ghar Kab Aaoge’, and ‘Matrubhumi’, had recently been released and were being enjoyed by his fans.
‘Not one reason, but many’
Arijit had previously posted some tweets on his private X (formerly Twitter) account, where he explained the reasons behind his decision. He wrote, “There isn’t just one reason behind this; there are many factors, and I have been thinking about this for a long time. Finally, I gathered the courage.” He further added, “One reason is very simple. I get bored easily, so I keep changing the arrangements of my songs and performing live. To be honest, I’m tired. I need to explore different kinds of music to stay alive.”
‘I will never leave music.’
Giving another reason, he wrote, “I am eager to listen to the voices of new singers who will give me true inspiration.” He assured his fans, “I will never leave music. I am a fan of good music and will learn more myself and work like a small artist.”
Return to Indian Classical Music
Following Arijit Singh's decision, many users started speculating about the reasons behind it. While many supported his decision, others pleaded with him to return. In response, the singer clarified the reasons behind his decision to his fans. He also mentioned his intention to move towards Indian classical music. A fan asked the singer if he was playing a prank on them, to which the singer replied that he wasn't toying with anyone's emotions, but was simply stepping away from Bollywood playback singing. However, he clarified that his connection with music, and especially Indian classical music, would remain. He made it clear that he was returning to Indian classical music. Arijit also said that he would create his own music and would release it whenever he was ready.

Arijit Singh's decision has left fans and celebrities alike shocked. Fans have requested him to reconsider his decision, while fellow musicians have expressed surprise and sadness. Music composers Vishal-Shekhar wrote, "Our dear Arijit... heartbroken to hear this." Lyricist Manoj Muntashir said, "Your voice has made a place in our hearts. Whatever you do, we are with you." Singer-composer Amaal Mallik, who has worked with Arijit on several superhit songs, shared an emotional post. Amaal wrote, "I'm completely lost for words after hearing this... I don't understand, but I respect your decision. Just know that I was, am, and will always be a fan of Arijit Singh." He further added, "If this is true, then believe me, film music will never be the same without you. Grateful to have been born in your era."
