In Hinduism, the Sun God (Surya Dev) is considered a direct deity. He is the giver of life, energy, health, self-confidence, and fame. Every Sunday of the week is dedicated to the Sun God, but when Sunday is the first Sunday of the year, its importance increases manifold. According to religious beliefs, performing these six rituals on this day brings auspicious results.

1. Offer water to the Sun from a copper vessel
Wake up before sunrise on the first Sunday of the year. After bathing, offer water to the Sun God from a copper vessel, adding red flowers, vermilion (roli), and rice. While offering the water, chant the mantra "Om Ghṛṇi Sūryāya Namaḥ". Religious belief holds that this increases self-confidence, cures eye diseases, and infuses new energy into life.
2. Recite the Aditya Hridayam Stotram
The Aditya Hridayam Stotram, described in the Ramayana, is considered the best mantra for worshipping the Sun. Reciting it on the first Sunday removes mental stress, fear, and failure. This recitation is considered extremely beneficial for those who seek success in their careers, respect, and government-related work.
3. Wear red clothes
According to religious beliefs, red is the favorite color of the Sun God. Wearing red or saffron-colored clothes on this day is considered auspicious. This strengthens the position of the Sun in the horoscope and develops leadership qualities, courage, and decision-making abilities in the individual.
4. Donate jaggery and wheat
Donating jaggery, wheat, copper, or red fruits on the first Sunday of the year is considered especially meritorious. According to ancient beliefs, this pacifies defects related to the Sun planet and reduces financial problems. This remedy is considered particularly beneficial for those whose Sun is weak in their horoscope.
5. Perform Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation)
In yoga philosophy, Surya Namaskar is considered a life-giving practice. Performing Surya Namaskar on this day is auspicious. It keeps the body healthy, increases immunity, and provides mental clarity. From a religious perspective, it is considered the best way to directly pay homage to the Sun God.

6. Limit your consumption of salt and oil
According to ancient beliefs, the consumption of salt and oil should be limited or avoided on Sundays. Following this rule, especially on the first Sunday of the year, is believed to bring the blessings of the Sun God, and gradually remove obstacles in life.
