In Hinduism, every date and day has its own significance as described in the scriptures. Similarly, Kharmas is also considered significant. During this period, Lord Vishnu and the Sun God are worshipped, bringing prosperity and happiness to one's life. However, auspicious events are not considered auspicious during this period. Auspicious events like marriages are not performed during Kharmas. Kharmas begins when the Sun enters Jupiter's zodiac sign, Sagittarius or Pisces. Let's learn from Ujjain's Pandit Anand Bhardwaj about which actions during this period bring virtuous results.

When will Kharmas begin?
According to the Vedic calendar, Kharmas, during which auspicious events are not performed, will begin on March 15th this year and end on April 14th, 2026. According to the calendar, Pisces Sankranti will occur on Sunday, March 15th, 2026. The auspicious time for this period will be from 6:31 am to 12:30 pm. Its auspicious time will last from approximately 6:31 am to approximately 8:31 am.
Why is Kharmas observed?
According to astrology, Kharmas is considered inauspicious when the Sun is in Sagittarius or Pisces. During this time, the Sun's radiance and influence are considered somewhat diminished. Since the Sun is considered the lord of the nine planets and a major source of self-confidence, auspicious and auspicious activities undertaken during this period may not yield the desired results, which is why auspicious events like marriages and housewarming are postponed. It is also believed that the full auspicious power of Jupiter, the guru of the gods, is not active during this time, which can lead to incomplete or weak results.
Don't perform these activities even by mistake.
- Auspicious activities are prohibited during Kharmas. Buying a new house or entering a new home during this time is considered inauspicious.
- Many people also purchase a new business or vehicle in the New Year, but these auspicious activities should not be undertaken during Kharmas.
– December offered many auspicious wedding dates, but Kharmas has now begun. Weddings, tonsures, sacred thread ceremonies, and engagement ceremonies should be avoided during this period.
Must do these things during Kharmas
Performing certain religious activities during Kharmas is considered highly fruitful. Offering water to the Sun God daily during this time brings positive energy into life. Feeding birds and caring for animals brings special blessings from the Lord. Worshiping Lord Vishnu and Mother Tulsi is also considered highly auspicious during this period.

Japa (chanting), penance, and charity are also considered particularly important. If possible, bathing in the Ganges or any other holy river is also beneficial. Overall, this is a time for taking a break from worldly pursuits and for introspection, meditation, and religious practices. Doing so brings balance, peace, and positive energy into life.
