What do experts say?
In a post shared on his Insta handle, the pediatrician says, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), with increasing age, the hours of sleep required for the child also change. For the better growth of children, you can put them to sleep according to their age.
How many hours should a child sleep at what age?
According to Dr. Gupta, newborn babies, i.e., children from 0 to 3 months, need 14 to 17 hours of sleep every day. At this age, children should take an average of 3 naps a day. As the child grows up, the need for sleep decreases a little.
Infants aged 4 to 11 months need 12 to 15 hours of sleep, which includes two naps a day.
At the age of 1 to 2 years, the need for sleep decreases to 11 to 14 hours, and children usually take a nap once a day.
When the child becomes 3 to 5 years old, they needs 10 to 13 hours of sleep.
Children aged 6 to 13 years should sleep for 9 to 11 hours.
Apart from all this, doctors advise children aged 14 to 17 years to take at least 8 to 10 hours of sleep.
Doctors say that due to lack of sleep, symptoms like irritability, lack of focus, lack of attention in studies and hindrance in physical development can be seen in children. In such a situation, pediatricians advise parents to take care of their children's sleep according to their age and especially limit their screen time.
