The festival of Vivah Panchami is celebrated on the fifth day of the Shukla Paksha (waxing moon) of the month of Margashirsha, and today the doors of Badrinath Dham are closing. During the final moments of closing, the atmosphere is filled with devotional songs, chants, and emotional sentiments. It is believed that visiting Badrinath Dham bestows patience, wisdom, and positivity upon one's heart.

This year, Vivah Panchami will be a very special day at Badrinath Dham, nestled among the lofty peaks of Uttarakhand. On this auspicious day, the doors of Lord Badrinath will be closed for the winter season. Like every year, a large crowd of devotees is thronging the Dham before the closing of the doors, as it is believed that darshan just before the closing of the doors is extremely fruitful. On Monday, the fourth day of Panch Puja, special prayers were performed at the Maa Lakshmi Temple, and traditional offerings of kadhai prasad were made. Following this, Goddess Lakshmi was invited to reside in the Badrinath sanctum sanctorum.

The doors of the Badrinath Temple will be closed for devotees at 2:56 pm today. This marks the beginning of the six-month winter season at Badrinath Dham. The temple has been lavishly decorated for this occasion. The glow of colorful lights and the fragrance of fresh flowers throughout the shrine evoke a divine world. During winter, Lord Badrinath is worshipped in Joshimath.

It should be noted that the Panch Pujas (five pujas) began at Badrinath Dham on November 21st. As part of this, the doors of the Ganesh Temple, Adi Kedareshwar, and Adi Guru Shankaracharya Gaddi Sthal were also ritually closed. As the closing time approached, the recitation of Vedic verses was also completed in the temple. After Yamunotri, Gangotri, and Kedarnath, Badrinath Dham is considered the final gateway to salvation. It is considered a symbol of completeness in the Char Dham Yatra, marking the final stage of ultimate spiritual practice.

On Monday morning, Amarnath Namboodri, the chief priest of Badrinath, arrived at the temple of Goddess Lakshmi and, amidst chanting of Vedic mantras, invited her to enter the sanctum sanctorum. Following this special moment, final preparations for the closing of the temple doors began. A special puja was performed at the Goddess Lakshmi temple on Monday.

As per tradition, the Rawal, the chief priest, formally invited Goddess Lakshmi to enter the main sanctum sanctorum. During the six summer months, Goddess Lakshmi resides at her place within the temple complex, but during the winter, she resides in the sanctum sanctorum of the main temple. A large number of devotees are arriving at Badrinath Dham ahead of the closing of the doors. Everyone wants to witness this historic and emotional process.

When the doors of Badrinath Dham are closed for the winter, the idol of the deity is traditionally taken to Joshimath. During the winter, worship is performed there, and a thick blanket of snow covers the shrine. The doors reopen the following summer, and the pilgrimage begins anew.

Badrinath Dham is dedicated to the Badri-Narayan form of Lord Vishnu. It is believed that visiting this shrine brings peace, contentment, and self-confidence to devotees. This form of Vishnu is considered the god of well-being. The serenity and divinity of this shrine, surrounded by icy winds and the confluence of the sacred Alaknanda River, is such that every devotee experiences a unique energy upon arriving here.
