Basant Panchami 2026: Every year, the festival of Basant Panchami is celebrated with devotion and joy on the fifth day of the bright half of the month of Magha. This day is dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, wisdom, and arts. For this reason, Basant Panchami is also known as Saraswati Puja and Shri Panchami. This day is very auspicious for children who have only been given mother's milk until now and are about to be introduced to solid food. On this occasion, kheer (rice pudding) made with milk and rice is prepared and first offered to Goddess Saraswati. After that, the child is dressed in clean, new clothes and seated on a wooden stool. The elders of the family feed the child the first solid food with a silver bowl and spoon. If silver is not available, steel utensils can also be used.
