Basant Panchami 2026: Every year, the festival of Basant Panchami is celebrated with devotion and joy on the fifth day of the bright half of the month of Magha. This day is dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, wisdom, and arts. For this reason, Basant Panchami is also known as Saraswati Puja and Shri Panchami. According to beliefs, worshipping the goddess of learning on this day sharpens the intellect and enhances learning abilities.

Beginning of the Spring Festival
With Basant Panchami, the celebration of the arrival of spring begins, which is called Vasantotsava (Spring Festival). This festival continues until Holi and spreads joy, new energy, and positivity all around.
A Special Day for Auspicious Activities
According to religious scriptures, Lord Brahma created the universe on this day, Basant Panchami is considered extremely auspicious for starting new ventures. This day is counted among the most sacred and auspicious days of the year because it is an Abujh Muhurat (an inherently auspicious time). During an Abujh Muhurat, auspicious activities can be performed without consulting the almanac, and they are considered successful.

Starting new studies or education
Starting a new business or job
Mundan ceremony (first haircut) for children
Annaprashan ceremony (first feeding of solid food)
Housewarming or other auspicious ceremonies
Special Significance of Annaprashan Ceremony
For parents who want to perform the Annaprashan ceremony for their child, Basant Panchami is considered ideal. This day is very auspicious for children who have only been given mother's milk until now and are about to be introduced to solid food. On this occasion, kheer (rice pudding) made with milk and rice is prepared and first offered to Goddess Saraswati. After that, the child is dressed in clean, new clothes and seated on a wooden stool. The elders of the family feed the child the first solid food with a silver bowl and spoon. If silver is not available, steel utensils can also be used.

Besides this, this day is also considered auspicious for starting education. This day is also considered very auspicious for starting a new business or job. Starting new ventures on this day significantly increases the chances of success. This day is also considered auspicious for ceremonies such as a child's first haircut, housewarming, or other auspicious events.
