The auspicious festival of Basant Panchami, dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, the deity of knowledge, wisdom, and arts, is being celebrated this year on January 23rd. According to scriptures, Goddess Saraswati manifested from the mouth of Lord Brahma on the fifth day of the bright half of the month of Magha, which is why this day is celebrated as a festival of knowledge and creativity.

This day is especially significant for education and concentration.
In the Skanda Purana and other ancient texts, Goddess Saraswati is described as the power that infuses knowledge and speech into creation. It is believed that without Saraswati, this creation would be lifeless and silent. Manotpal Jha, a renowned Pandit from Purnea, says that for children who are weak in studies, who lack concentration, or who have speech impediments (stuttering or lisping), the remedies performed on Basant Panchami are nothing short of miraculous.
Infallible remedies to sharpen the mind
According to Pandit Ji, students should follow some simple but highly effective rules to make their minds as sharp as a computer:
Karadarshanam: Upon waking up in the morning, first look at your palms and remember God. It is believed that Lakshmi resides in the fingertips, Saraswati in the middle, and Govinda at the base of the palms.
Importance of offering water to the sun and white flowers: After bathing at sunrise, take water in a copper vessel. Add a white flower to it and offer it to the Sun God and Goddess Saraswati while meditating on them.
The power of the Gayatri Mantra: After offering the water, chant the Gayatri Mantra just 11 times. This mantra directly awakens the brain cells and increases concentration.

Religious and scientific significance
From Basant Panchami onwards, changes begin in nature, and the spring season arrives. Wearing yellow clothes, offering yellow sweets to Goddess Saraswati, and worshipping pens and books are the main traditions of this day. People associated with music and art also begin their practice on this day. Pandit Ji says that these methods not only sharpen the intellect but also instill better values in children.
