Bollywood in the grip of fear: It began with Gulshan Kumar, and now Tiger Shroff has become the target..

Late Sunday evening, actor Tiger Shroff came under attack. Assailants opened fire on him using a country-made pistol. The Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility for the incident via social media. However, this is not the first time that Bollywood stars have faced such violent threats. This menace began to take root in the film industry as far back as the 1990s. From the case of Gulshan Kumar to the recent attack on Tiger Shroff, several such incidents have occurred over the years. Let’s take a look...

Gulshan Kumar
In August 1997, T-Series founder Gulshan Kumar was shot dead outside the Jiteshwar Mahadev Temple in the Andheri area of Mumbai. The assailants fired 16 bullets at him. According to reports, Abu Salem—a gangster close to underworld don Dawood Ibrahim—had been demanding an extortion sum of ₹10 crore from Gulshan for several days. Gulshan, however, was unwilling to hand over his hard-earned money to the mafia.

Mukesh Duggal
Bollywood film producer Mukesh Duggal was shot dead exactly one year after the attack on Gulshan Kumar. The incident took place between March 1997 and March 1998; he was gunned down outside his office in the Versova (Saat Bangla) area of Mumbai. The assailants were identified as sharpshooters from the 'D-Company' (Dawood Ibrahim’s gang): Munna Jhingada, Kalia Sadiq, and Salim Chikna.

Rakesh Roshan
This incident occurred in 2000 in a busy part of Mumbai. It had been only a week since the release of filmmaker Rakesh Roshan’s memorable film, *Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai*. The film was released on June 14, 2000, and with its success, Rakesh Roshan found himself in the crosshairs of the underworld. Rakesh Roshan was shot by assailants in broad daylight, sustaining two gunshot wounds. Despite this, he managed to reach the hospital on his own. The attack was linked to the underworld; specifically, it was traced back to the gang of Ali Budesh—an associate of the 'D-Company'—who demanded a share of the profits from one of Roshan's films.

Salman Khan
Actor Salman Khan first received threats in 2018, amidst the ongoing legal case regarding the poaching of a blackbuck. That same year, a Jodhpur court sentenced him to five years in prison, following which the actor received death threats from the gang of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The conflict stems from the religious significance the Bishnoi community attaches to the blackbuck. This marked the beginning of the Bishnoi gang’s campaign to target those close to Salman Khan.

Second Incident
Subsequently, on April 14, 2024, between 4:50 AM and 5:00 AM, two assailants on a motorcycle opened fire outside Galaxy Apartments in Bandra, Mumbai—the residence of actor Salman Khan. The shooting was orchestrated by the gang of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his brother, Anmol Bishnoi.

Baba Siddique
On October 12, 2024, acting on their threats, the gang targeted Baba Siddique, a close associate of Salman Khan. He was shot and killed; according to reports, three assailants fired six to seven rounds, striking him in the abdomen and chest. The attackers fled the scene. Shortly after the incident, an individual posted on Facebook, claiming responsibility for the attack and identifying himself as a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

Munawar Faruqui
The comedian received threats in October 2024, following which the Mumbai Police provided him with security. Intelligence reports also indicated an alleged plot to target them in Delhi.

Rohit Shetty
A shooting incident took place at film director Rohit Shetty’s residence in Juhu, Mumbai, on February 1, 2026. Following the incident, Shubham Lonkar and Arzoo Bishnoi—both linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang—claimed responsibility via social media. A gangster associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang wrote on Facebook that Rohit Shetty had been warned multiple times not to interfere in their affairs, but he failed to heed the warnings. This attack, they claimed, was merely a "trailer."

Ranveer Singh
In February 2026, the actor received a voice message demanding a payment of ₹10 crore. Further threats warned that both he and his staff would face dire consequences. This threat was issued in the name of Harichand Jat, alias "Harry Boxer," an operative of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

Aayush Sharma
In February 2026, Salman Khan’s brother-in-law received a threatening email in which the sender demanded a ransom in cryptocurrency and claimed to have links to the Bishnoi gang. Given previous threats, it can be inferred that Aayush was targeted due to his close association with Salman.

Aamir Khan
In July 2026, the actor received threats via social media and audio messages from individuals claiming to be affiliated with the Bishnoi gang. The police investigated the messages, which contained allegations concerning his personal life. The investigation revealed that the accounts were being operated under the names Arzoo Bishnoi and Tyson Bishnoi.
