Lyricist Javed Akhtar has now shared his thoughts on the matter.

Javed Akhtar refused to work on 'Border 2.'
According to reports, the filmmakers had approached Javed Akhtar to write the songs for the film. However, he refused to write the songs. Regarding the ongoing debate about the film's songs, Javed Akhtar said, "They asked me to write for the film, but I refused. I truly believe this is a kind of creative bankruptcy. You have an old song that is already good, and you want to recreate it by adding something to it? Create new songs; otherwise, admit that you can't do work of that caliber."

Javed Akhtar emphasizes the need for new songs.
He further added, "Let what has been created remain as it is. What is the need to recreate it? The songs of the film 'Haqeeqat' (1964) were very good. However, we didn't use them. We wrote new songs, and people loved them too. You are making a new film, so make new songs. Why are you dependent on the previous ones? You've admitted that you can't do it at that level."

It should be noted that the film 'Border 2' is scheduled to release in theaters on January 23, 2026. It stars Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty in lead roles. This film is a sequel to 'Border' (1997).
