On the first day of Chaitra Navratri (2026), *Ghatasthapana* (or *Kalash Sthapana*) holds immense significance. Through this ritual, Goddess Durga is invoked and invited into one's home. If you adhere to the correct procedure and guidelines for this ceremony, you will reap the full spiritual benefits of the Navratri worship. Let us explore the proper method for this ritual.

The Correct Procedure for Ghatasthapana (Ghatasthapana Guidelines)
On the first day of Navratri, wake up early in the morning, complete your morning ablutions and meditation, and then meditate upon the Divine Mother.
Cleanse the specific spot where the *Ghatasthapana* is to take place, and then purify it by sprinkling *Gangajal* (holy water from the Ganges).
According to *Vastu* principles, the North or North-East direction is considered ideal for performing *Ghatasthapana*. Subsequently, draw an *Ashtadal* (an eight-petaled lotus design) using turmeric powder at that designated spot.
Fill a copper or earthen *Kalash* (pot) with pure water and a small amount of *Gangajal*. Place a coin, a betel nut (*Supari*), a whole turmeric root, *Durva* grass, and *Akshat* (unbroken rice grains) inside it.
Do not place the *Kalash* directly on the bare ground; instead, use a wooden stool (*Chowki* or *Pata*) as a base.
Spread a new piece of cloth—preferably red or yellow—over the wooden stool.
Draw a *Swastika* symbol on the exterior of the *Kalash* using *Roli* (sacred red powder) and tie a sacred red thread (*Mauli*) around it.
Place 5 or 7 mangoes or Ashoka leaves around the rim of the *Kalash*.
Now, wrap a coconut in a red cloth and place it atop the *Kalash*.
Fill a wide earthen vessel with clean soil and sow barley seeds (*Jau*) within it.
Begin the worship by first offering prayers to Lord Ganesha, followed by prayers to the Divine Mother (*Mata Rani*).
It is also highly recommended to light an *Akhand Jyot* (continuous lamp) on this day.

Points to Keep in Mind
During the *Kalash Sthapana* ritual, maintain complete physical and mental purity.
Do not harbor any negative thoughts in your mind.
Once the *Kalash* has been installed, do not move it from its designated spot for the entire nine days of Navratri.
Ensure that you light an Akhand Jyot (continuous lamp) during the Kalash Sthapana ceremony.
If you have lit an Akhand Jyot in your home, you should not leave the house unattended or empty during this period.
During the auspicious period of Navratri, strictly refrain from anger, using abusive language, or insulting anyone.
