Chhath Puja is celebrated as a grand festival in Hinduism. On this day, Chhathi Maiya is worshipped, the Sun God is revered, and a very strict fast is observed. However, the glory of this fast is truly revealed during Chhath Puja, when women gather in large numbers at ponds, rivers, and ghats to perform Chhath Puja. Chhath Puja is a four-day festival. For devotees in Bihar, Jharkhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh, and across the country, Chhath Puja, the grand festival of worshipping the Sun God, is not just a religious ritual but a symbol of faith, discipline, and purity. Let's find out when Chhath Puja is being celebrated this year, why Chhath Puja is celebrated, and how it should be celebrated.

When is Chhath Puja?
In 2025, Chhath Puja will begin on Saturday, October 25th, and end on Tuesday, October 28th. This four-day festival begins with "Nahay-Khaay." The fast is broken after Kharna on the second day, Sandhya Arghya on the third day, and Usha Arghya on the fourth day.
How is Chhath Puja celebrated?
On the first day of Chhath Puja, Nahay Khaye is celebrated. On this day, special attention is paid to the purity of the home and the consumption of sattvik food.
On the second day, Kharna, the fasting person, begins the Nirjala fast by offering Prasad made of jaggery and milk to the Sun.
On the third day, Sandhya Arghya is offered to the setting Sun.
On the fourth day, Usha Arghya is offered to the rising Sun.
In this puja, fasting women fast without drinking water during the fast; this is considered the highest example of discipline and penance. Traditional offerings like Thekua, soup, bananas, sugarcane, and pumpkin rice hold special significance during Chhath.

Why is Chhath Puja celebrated?
This festival reminds us that the Sun is not only a source of energy but also the foundation of life. Behind every rule of Chhath Puja lies a deep message of harmony with nature and self-control. Even in the modern age, this festival teaches us that faith is meaningful only when it is combined with discipline and gratitude.
