Devshayani Ekadashi Kab Hai: In Sanatan Dharma, Ekadashi Tithi is considered to be very sacred and virtuous. Every Ekadashi is dedicated to Lord Shri Hari Vishnu, but Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Ashadh month, which is called Devshayani Ekadashi, has special significance. On this day, devotees observe fast, worship Lord Vishnu ritually, and do charity. This date is considered to be a symbol of the beginning of Yog Nidra of Lord Vishnu.

According to religious belief, Chaturmas starts from Devshayani Ekadashi, which lasts for four months. During this time Lord Vishnu rests and the creation is governed by Lord Shiva. Auspicious works like marriage and housewarming are considered forbidden in Chaturmas. This time is considered to be best for self-restraint, sadhana, fasting, and devotion, which brings peace and auspicious results in life.

Devshayani Ekadashi Vrat Date and Shubh Muhurta

Ekadashi Tithi of Ashadh Shukla Paksha will start at 6:58 pm on 5th July 2025 this year and will continue till 9:14 pm on 6th July. According to the Panchang, the 6th of July 2025 is considered the best day for fasting and worship. On this auspicious occasion, devotees worship Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi methodically. It is believed that fasting and worship done with devotion on this day is especially fruitful, which removes the problems of life and brings blessings of happiness and prosperity.

Devshayani Ekadashi Puja Vidhi

Get up in Brahma Muhurta, take a pure bath, and wear clean yellow clothes, as yellow color is considered especially auspicious on this day.

Take water, fresh flowers, and Akshat in your hand take a vow of fasting in your mind, and make a firm resolve to worship Lord Vishnu.

Clean the puja altar and decorate it with yellow cloth, then install the idol or picture of Lord Vishnu.

Bathe the idol of Lord Vishnu with Panchamrit (milk, curd, ghee, honey, and sugar) and pure water, so that his worship can be done properly.

Dress the Lord in yellow clothes and offer sandalwood, fresh flowers, garland, basil leaves, betel leaf, betel nut, and Akshat.

Light a lamp of pure ghee and light it in front of the Lord, so that purity and light spreads.

Chant Vishnu mantras, such as "Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevay", will increase the concentration of the mind and deepen devotion.

Recite or listen to Devshayani Ekadashi Vrat Katha, so that the importance and results of the fast become clear.

Perform the Aarti of Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi, and offer lamps and flowers at their feet with devotion.

Serve yellow fruits, milk-based sweets, and sattvik food as bhog, which is considered auspicious for this day.

Perform Bhajans, chant mantras, and do Sadhna throughout the day, which leads to spiritual progress and keeps the mind pure.

The next day on Dwadashi Tithi, break the fast by following restraint and purity.

What to do

Keep fast and eat sattvik food or fruits throughout the day.

Listen to or read the story of Lord Vishnu.

Chant Vishnu Sahasranama or "Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevay" mantra.

Donate food, clothes, water, and other things to the needy.

Adopt a restrained lifestyle. Keep the mind, speech, and action pure.

What not to do
Stay away from onion, garlic, meat, alcohol and spicy tamasic food.

Avoid lying, backbiting, anger and using foul language.

Do not let the mind become restless. Maintain concentration and devotion.

Do not perform marriage, engagement or other auspicious functions on this day.
