Points to Remember While Offering Oil
One should never offer oil to Lord Shani by pouring it over His head.
One should avoid standing directly in front of Lord Shani.
One should refrain from making direct eye contact with His idol or image.
Always offer oil at the feet of Lord Shani.
Begin by applying oil to His big toe, and then gradually pour the oil over His entire feet.
Lord Shani's Mantras and the Oil Offering
Chanting the following mantras while offering oil to Lord Shani is considered highly auspicious:
Om Sham Shanaishcharaya Namah.
Om Pram Preem Proum Sah Shanaishcharaya Namah. One should always offer either mustard oil or sesame oil to Lord Shani.
While chanting mantras, one's mind should remain calm and filled with reverence.
**The Procedure for Donating Oil**
The most auspicious time for donating oil is considered to be after sunset.
The period up until 8:00 PM is considered ideal for making oil donations.
One should donate only mustard oil or sesame oil.
It is also considered auspicious to donate black sesame seeds, black Urad lentils, and black clothing along with the oil.
Before donating the oil, take the oil in a bronze or iron vessel and look at your own reflection in it.
Subsequently, donate the oil along with that very vessel.
Remedial measures performed in accordance with this procedure are believed to be effective in mitigating the adverse effects of *Shani Dosha* (afflictions caused by Lord Shani).
