Blood Sugar's Effect on the Eye
Doctors explain that increased blood sugar can cause leakage from the eye vessels, leading to a condition called macular edema. In some cases, high blood sugar levels can cause these blood vessels to become blocked, a condition known as ischemia. This ischemia, or insufficient blood supply to the retina, causes the body to create new blood vessels, which are typically unhealthy.

These vessels continue to bleed, leading to bleeding in the eye, a condition called vitreous hemorrhage. If this is not controlled and treated promptly, it can lead to vision loss.

Blood Pressure and Eye Connection
Another condition is blood pressure. Doctors explain that retinal vessels are very thin, and if blood flows through them under too much pressure, the blood vessels can become blocked. When blood vessels become blocked, conditions such as vein occlusion or artery occlusion can occur.

The important thing is that even if the veins are blocked, treatment can be done with laser or injection, but if the arteries are blocked, treatment is a little more difficult because, in most cases, the blood supply is completely cut off, and the chances of permanent vision loss are very high. Another condition called AION, in which the blood supply to the optic nerve, which connects the eye and the brain, is blocked, can be caused by both high blood pressure and high blood sugar.
