Vrat-Friendly Sandwich Recipe: The month of Sawan is considered highly significant for devotion to Lord Shiva and for observing fasts. During this period, many people observe the Monday fast and consume only *falahari* (fast-friendly) foods throughout the day. However, repeatedly eating *sabudana khichdi*, potatoes, or fruits can lead to monotony in taste. If you wish to add something new and delicious to your fasting meal this Sawan, a *falahari* sandwich is an excellent choice.

This recipe is both flavorful and filling. Made with boiled potatoes, *paneer* (cottage cheese), and mild spices, this sandwich is quick to prepare and can easily be served as a morning breakfast, an evening snack, or a main fasting meal. If bread is not permitted under your fasting rules, use a fasting-friendly bread or an alternative made from *kuttu* (buckwheat) or *singhara* (water chestnut) flour. Always select ingredients according to your religious traditions and personal dietary needs.
Let’s learn how to make this easy and delicious *falahari* sandwich.

In a large bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, grated paneer, rock salt (sendha namak), black pepper, green chilies, and fresh coriander; mix well. If desired, you can also add some crushed roasted peanuts to enhance the flavor.
How to prepare the sandwich?
You can prepare the sandwich in two ways. One option is to make the *falahari* (fasting-friendly) bread beforehand and use it when you are ready to make the sandwich.
Method 1
Step 1- Spread the prepared stuffing evenly over one slice of bread.
Step 2- Place the second slice on top.
Step 3- Lightly apply ghee to both sides.
Step 4- Toast on a tawa (griddle) or in a sandwich maker over low-to-medium heat until golden and crispy on both sides.
Method 2
Prepare the sandwich while making the bread itself.
Step 1- Grease the sandwich maker with ghee and spread the bread batter.
Step 2- Place the potato-paneer stuffing on top.
Step 3- Pour another spoonful of batter over the stuffing.
Step 4- Cook it.
You can also repeat this process on a tawa, cooking until golden brown on both sides.
How to serve
Cut the hot *falahari* sandwich into triangles and serve with yogurt, fasting-friendly green chutney, or fresh fruit.
You can also sprinkle some roasted cumin powder or black pepper on top if desired.
