GBS is increasing tension in Maharashtra! 167 people have been affected so far, know what are the symptoms and how dangerous it is

GBS is a rare disorder in which a person's immune system attacks the peripheral nerves, causing sudden numbness of parts of the body, muscle weakness, and difficulty swallowing or breathing.
There has been an increase in cases of Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS) in Maharashtra. The number of suspected cases has increased to 192. Of these, GBS has been confirmed in 167 patients. So far 7 people have died. 1 death has been confirmed due to GBS, while 6 deaths are suspected.
There are 39 patients from Pune MC, 91 from newly added villages in PMC area, 29 from Pimpri Chinchwad MC, 25 from Pune Rural and 8 from other districts. 91 patients have been discharged, 48 are in ICU and 21 are on ventilators.
The state government has been asked to provide free treatment to the patients as per the guidelines of the central government. GBS patients are being treated free of cost in hospitals. Apart from this, this treatment is also being covered under the state's Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana.
Symptoms of GBS:
- Weakness in the legs
- Pain in the legs
- Difficulty standing up
- Difficulty in walking
To prevent GBS, it is important to keep some things in mind:
- Take care of cleanliness. Wash hands frequently and eat clean food
- Try to avoid any kind of infection. If there is any infection, contact the doctor immediately and get it treated.
- Eating: Eat a healthy and balanced diet
- Keep your immunity strong. For this, adopt a healthy lifestyle and stay away from stress
In severe cases of GBS, the patient may become completely paralyzed. Most adults and men are more likely to suffer from this disorder, although people of all ages can be affected by it.

The state health department advised that GBS can be prevented to some extent by taking general precautions, such as drinking boiled/bottled water, washing fruits and vegetables thoroughly before eating, cooking chicken and meat properly, avoiding raw or undercooked food, especially salads, eggs, kebabs or seafood.
If a person feels weakness or pain in the legs and this weakness is increasing every day, then he should immediately consult a doctor.
