If you also use Google Pay to pay electricity bills at home, then now you are going to get a big shock. Apps offering many services from UPI to bill payment have now started increasing the burden on customers. Everyone you see has started charging convenience fees for bill payment, Google Pay is also not behind in this race because now Google has also started charging convenience charges from users.

Now you will have to pay charges for these services.
According to the report of Economic Times, if you use a credit or debit card for bill payment, then a charge of 0.5 percent to 1 percent will be taken from you, apart from this charge you will also have to pay GST. Let us remind you that till now Google Pay did not charge any additional charge from users for bill payments. At present, Google Pay has not given any official information regarding the convenience charge.
Charges are also being levied on mobile charges.
The Economic Times report also mentions that for a year, Google Pay has been charging users a convenience fee of Rs 3 on mobile charges. The report states that when a customer used a credit card to pay the electricity bill, the app charged the user a convenience fee of Rs 15. This fee is being shown in the app under the name of processing fee for debit/credit card transactions, which also includes GST.
Will there be charges on UPI transactions as well?
There is currently no information about the charge on UPI transactions through Google Pay, according to global service firm PwC, stakeholders have to spend 0.25 percent in the UPI transaction process. Now it seems that to cover these expenses, fintech companies are adopting new revenue models. UPI transactions are completely free till now, many times demand has been raised to impose charge on UPI but till now it has been kept free by the government.
