What shouldn't be kept in the refrigerator: Refrigerators are used to prevent food from spoiling and to keep it fresh. Sometimes, people unknowingly put certain food items in the refrigerator that later prove to be harmful. Did you know that storing every food item in the refrigerator can be very harmful to your health? Recently, nutritionist Simrat Kathuria shared a video on her Instagram handle and explained which 5 things should be avoided when keeping in the refrigerator. Let's find out...

1. Tomatoes
99% of people store tomatoes in their refrigerators. However, nutritionist Simrat advises against storing tomatoes in the refrigerator. This is because it destroys the lycopene and flavor. Lycopene is an antioxidant that gives tomatoes their red color and reduces the risk of heart disease. Therefore, it is considered best to keep tomatoes at room temperature, away from direct sunlight.
2. Fruit Juice
Most people store leftover fruit juice in the refrigerator for a long time. But did you know that this can be very harmful to your health? Leftover juice should always be consumed fresh. The nutritionist suggests that if you must store juice, keep it in the freezer.
3. Ginger-Garlic Paste
According to the nutritionist, ginger-garlic paste should always be stored in the freezer. Storing it in the refrigerator can lead to bacterial growth, increasing the risk of food poisoning. So, the next time you store ginger-garlic paste, keep this in mind.
4. Leftover Dough
Sometimes, after making rotis (flatbreads), people put the leftover dough in the refrigerator. But this can be a big mistake. Nutritionist Simrat explains that this causes the dough to ferment, increasing the risk of gas and bloating. For this reason, you should avoid eating rotis made from dough stored in the refrigerator. 5. Sliced lemons
Sliced lemons start to oxidize, which is why you should avoid storing them in the refrigerator. However, if you have many sliced lemons at home, you can extract their juice and freeze it in an ice tray. This will be perfect for later use.
