Every year on January 26th, colorful tableaux are displayed in the parade on Kartavya Path in Delhi. These tableaux showcase the country's culture, strength, and technology. But do you know how these tableaux are selected?

In fact, the Ministry of Defence handles all the arrangements for the Republic Day parade. Therefore, the selection of the tableaux is also done by the Ministry of Defence. Let's understand how the tableaux for Republic Day are chosen and what theme has been selected this year.
Republic Day 2026 Parade Theme
This year's theme is very special, based on two main mantras:
Mantra of Freedom - Vande Mataram
Mantra of Prosperity - Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India)
This year, all the tableaux will showcase their art and culture around these themes.
How are the tableaux selected?
Selecting the tableaux for the parade is a very long process that begins months in advance. Since the tableaux are cultural and artistic in nature, the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Culture work together to complete this process.
Proposals and Designs - At the beginning of the process, the Ministry of Defence invites all states, union territories, and government departments to submit their sketches or designs based on a detailed theme.
Adherence to Strict Guidelines - While submitting proposals, it is necessary to follow some basic rules. For example:
No plastic is to be used this year; only eco-friendly materials are to be used.
No logos can be displayed on any tableau, only the name of the state or department.
There are also specific rules for writing the name in Hindi on the front and in English on the back of the tableau.
Committee of Experts
The Ministry of Defence forms a committee of experts from various fields such as art, culture, painting, sculpture, music, architecture, and choreography. This committee carefully examines all the proposals. Selection Process
The selection of tableaux takes place in two main stages:

First Stage: A panel reviews the initial designs and suggests changes or improvements if necessary.
Second Stage: Once the design is approved, participants must present a 3D model of their tableau to the panel. Experts examine these models and make the final selection of the tableaux.
If a participant fails to participate in any stage, they are disqualified. Only after completing all these stages does a tableau get to participate in the parade on Kartavya Path.
