Is the coffee in your home real or adulterated? Check its purity in just 5 minutes using the test recommended by the FSSAI..

For many people, the day simply cannot begin without a cup of piping hot coffee. Its delightful aroma and flavor leave us feeling refreshed for the entire day; however, have you ever paused to consider whether the coffee powder you are so eagerly dissolving in your cup is truly pure?

Could it be that, unknowingly, you are ingesting clay into your body under the guise of coffee? In reality, coffee powder is dark brown in color; therefore, if clay is mixed into it, it becomes nearly impossible to detect the adulteration with the naked eye.

However, there is no need to worry, as the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has shared an incredibly simple method to resolve this very concern. The best part about this test is that you do not need to visit a laboratory to perform it. By utilizing items already available in your kitchen, you can determine the purity of your coffee in just 5 minutes.

**A Step-by-Step Guide to Checking Coffee Purity**

First, take a clean glass and fill it with plain water (use a glass so that you can easily see through it).
Now, add exactly half a teaspoon of coffee powder to this glass of water.
After adding the coffee powder, there is no need to stir it vigorously. Simply let the glass sit undisturbed in one spot for 5 minutes, and set a timer or alarm on your watch.
**How to Identify Adulteration After 5 Minutes**

Once the time is up, look very closely at the very bottom of the glass without shaking it:

**Identifying Pure Coffee:** If your coffee powder is 100% authentic and free from any adulteration, you will not see any sediment or particles accumulated at the bottom of the glass. Pure coffee blends seamlessly with water.
**Identifying Adulterated Coffee:** Conversely, if your coffee has been adulterated with clay, the clay will not dissolve in the water. You will clearly see heavy clay particles settled right at the bottom of the glass. This simple test, recommended by the FSSAI, demonstrates that by staying vigilant, we can protect our families from food adulteration. The next time you bring home a new packet of coffee powder from the market, be sure to try out this free test before taking your first sip.
