Itchy Anus: If you are troubled by itching in the anus, then get rid of it with these methods..

Many people experience itching in the anus area i.e. in the rectum. Some people experience it more frequently while some experience it occasionally. If scratched in the wrong way or intensely, the skin peels off, due to which there is pain in defecation. Many people feel uncomfortable when there is severe itching on the road. In such a situation, it is very important to understand its cause, so that it can be controlled. Dr. Neeraj Sharma, Obstetrician and Gynecologist of Vidya Nursing Home, has also told the causes of anal itching and ways to control it. So let's know about this in more detail.

Know what are the causes of anal itching:

1. Infection

Bacterial, fungal, and parasitic infections and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including gonorrhea and anal herpes, all these conditions can cause itching in the anus. In the case of HPV, anal warts and STIs can also be responsible for this.

2. Certain types of irritants

Personal habits, such as eating habits, clothing, hygiene practices, and self-care products can irritate the skin around the anus. Cleaning the anus too often, leaving it wet after cleaning with water, prolonged exposure to moisture due to sweating, or wearing tight clothes can cause itching in the anus.

3. Wrong bathroom habits

If you scrub your anus too much after passing stool or do not clean it thoroughly with water even once a day, then the skin of your anal area can become irritated. If you are experiencing itching in your anus, clean it gently with a piece of dye-free, unscented toilet paper or wet wipes.

4. Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids are a common cause of itching in the anus, which can cause irritation and pain around your anus. In the condition of hemorrhoids, the blood vessels of the anus and lower rectum become swollen. This problem occurs in three out of four adults from time to time. Its cause can be a little difficult to understand.

5. Psoriasis

People who suffer from psoriasis may have itching around their anus. Psoriasis around the anus causes a lot of itching, and pain can be experienced during bowel movements. Other skin conditions such as seborrhea and eczema can also cause itching in the anus.

What to do when the anus itches:

1. Stop the urge to scratch

Scratching can irritate the skin, and doing so can make the condition worse. For relief, compress the itchy area with a cloth. Keep your nails short and wear cotton gloves while sleeping to avoid ingrown nails.

2. Keep the anus clean, cool and dry

If you clean the anal area with a tissue, be careful that even a small amount of stool left behind can cause itching and irritation. So, clean properly after a bowel movement. Clean the anal area with water if necessary, and then wipe it with tissue paper and allow the skin to dry thoroughly. You may prefer to use wet wipes or toilet paper soaked in water when wiping the anal area. When washing, clean the area around the anus with plain water or mild soap and a soft washcloth.

3. Avoid using certain foods and bathroom products

Avoid foods and drinks that can irritate the skin around the anus, such as coffee, cola, alcohol, citrus fruits, chocolate, spicy foods, and tomatoes. Certain chemicals in foods and medicines can cause irritation or allergies. For example, taking certain types of antibiotics can trigger itching. Avoid using toilet paper with dyes and perfumes.

4. Avoid wearing tight underwear

Wearing tight-fitting clothes traps sweat and also causes the skin to rub against the skin, causing the skin to peel. If you wear synthetic panties, your skin may get irritated. All these reasons can irritate your anal area. Wear well-fitting cotton underwear, this way your skin will remain dry and fresh and you will not have any kind of discomfort.

5. Take care of digestion for regular bowel movements

Include adequate amounts of fluid and fiber in your diet to promote regular bowel movements. Eat fruits and vegetables, which promote regular bowel movements, and do not let constipation occur. Constipation can cause itching in the anal area.

6. Apply ointment or gel

If you experience itching regularly, visit a doctor, and apply the ointment or gel suggested by them on the affected area. However, it is not advisable to use any ointment without the doctor's suggestion.
