Jamun (Java plum), available in the market during the summer season, is considered highly beneficial for health in addition to being delicious. While most people prefer eating Jamun simply with black salt, did you know that a tasty Jamun chutney can also be easily prepared at home? This chutney not only enhances the flavor of a meal but is also considered extremely helpful in maintaining good digestion. The best part is that it takes very little time to make and can be prepared instantly using common household ingredients. Moreover, it is quick to prepare and, if stored correctly, stays fresh for a long time.

Durga Devi, a homemaker from Bhilwara, notes that the summer season is also known as the Jamun season. During this time, Jamun is abundantly available in the market, and people enjoy eating it with great relish. To make the sweet and tangy Jamun chutney, start by taking 250 grams of ripe Jamun and washing them thoroughly with clean water. Next, remove the seeds and separate the pulp. Now, place the pulp in a mixer jar along with one or two chopped green chilies, a handful of fresh coriander leaves, some mint leaves, a teaspoon of roasted cumin seeds, half a teaspoon of black salt, regular white salt to taste, and one to two teaspoons of jaggery or sugar; then, grind everything into a smooth paste.
**Special tips to enhance the flavor**
If the mixture seems too thick while grinding, you can add a little water as needed and blend it again. Once the chutney is ready, you can add a little lemon juice to further enhance its taste. Additionally, if you prefer a spicier and tangier flavor, you can add a touch of garlic or black pepper while grinding. This delicious chutney pairs perfectly with parathas, puris, dal-chawal, pakoras, samosas, and a variety of breakfast dishes. Its delightful sweet-and-sour flavor is loved by everyone in the family, from children to adults.

Nutrient-rich and storage tips
Jamun (Java plum) contains numerous essential nutrients that are highly beneficial for the human body. It is rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and fiber. This is precisely why Jamun is considered an integral part of a balanced summer diet. However, as with any food, it should be consumed in moderation. Once prepared, the Jamun chutney can be stored in a clean, dry glass jar in the refrigerator and used easily for two to three days. Offering a perfect blend of taste and health, this Jamun chutney can make your family meals even more special this season.
